A few weeks ago I asked for recommendations for a brunch spot in San Juan Capistrano or environs. Chow Hounds "Honeyman" and "EJW" both recommended the Ramos House Cafe on the old "wrong side of the tracks" (now the "historic" district) of SJC.
As it turned out, my planned one-on-one get-together with an old high school friend morphed into an impromptu reunion of six of us old dudes. The brunch was terrific, the weather cooperated to the max, and the place was *just* right. The bloody mary (garnished with a crab claw) may have colored my perceptions, but the beignets and crab hash were wonderful. At $25 per person (excl. cocktail) some might find it pricey, but we all thought it was a great value. And without being steered there by a couple of knowledgable Chowhounds, there's no way we would have ever found this place. Thanks again.
