Obscure international holes-in-the-wall in Chicago

Displaced Hoser | Mar 8, 201710:56 AM     22

Hi all,

I'm going to be in Chicago for a conference for a few days in July. Will not have access to a car but will likely be able to get out in the evenings for dinner at least a couple of times. (Conference is at McCormick Place. I may either stay there or get a room somewhere else with easier transit access to food - the Loop maybe?) I'm coming from Boston, which is modestly cosmopolitan but not nearly as much as Chicago, and I have a real hankering for what I consider old-school chowhound food: cheap little hole-in-the-wall places where immigrant families serve their delicious traditional food to fellow immigrants, especially from cuisines that are normally hard to get. I'm thinking of cuisines like Burmese, Goan, Liberian, Bajan, Peruvian, Nigerian, Uighur... any recommendations in that vein?
