Obscene Portions on the Gold Coast

We just got back from our annual Thanksgiving visit to Boca.

This time, more than usual, we noticed that the portions served by some restaurants are ridiculously oversized. Two in particular:

Snappers in Boynton Beach: the waste at this place could feed most of Kabul for a week. The food is pretty good and the prices are very good, but they could halve everything and people would still leave well-fed. Mrs. W. ordered a seafood risotto, with scallops, asparagus, smoked mozz, and some other stuff. I swear the portion she was served was bigger than a full recipe she makes at home. Four people could have easily been fed by this dish. The tab: a whopping $13.95. No wonder the place is always mobbed.

My brother got sesame coated tuna. It was at least twice the size of what you normally get, and very good.

My macadamia crusted snapper over garlic mashed taters was utterly tasteless, but everyone else was pleased.

Flakowitz, Boca: Mrs. W's nova, eggs, and onions contained at least four eggs, and pile of potatoes on the side was nearly as big. Add a bagel and you have a meal fit for Three Kings for $6.49.

We also had a decent meal at Carson's Ribs (HINT: NO NEED TO ORDER ANY APPETIZERS) and a nice lunch down at Paninoteca on Lincoln Rd. in Miami Beach.

I would like to add that the service at these places and most other places we have tried in the Boca area is quite good. These people have the patience of Job.
