Obelisk - A review

Tweaked | Jan 16, 2003 08:29 AM

Have a friend in town so we hit Obelisk for dinner last night:

Amuse Bouche
Deep Fried Fritters stuffed with Risotto and cheese

(Matt) Maiale Tonato - Veal in a Tuna Sauce?
(Martin) Porcini with Polenta - Very nice, but a touch of salt was in order

(Matt) Endive and Speck Ravioli with Gorganzola
(Martin) Oxtail Raviolini with Broth
Both excellent

(Matt) Roast Squab with Raisins, Pinenuts, and Baby Spinach
(Martin) Grilled Lamb Loin with Rafini and Roasted Onion
Also very tasty

Cheese Course
Parmesean with Balsamic and Olive Oil
(weak cheese course)

(Matt) Pomegranate, Tangerine, and Grapefruit Sorbets
(Martin) Meyer Lemon Tart (Very nice)

For wine we had:
Half Bottle - Isole e Olena Chianti 2000 (very nice with excellent fruit)
Half Bottle - La Gerla Brunello 1997 (also very good wine)
Full Bottle - Sagrantino di MonteFalco Antonelli 1998 (a good wine, a touch too earthy for my taste)

Paggio Antico Brunello
Jaeopi Poli Chiara do Mosdeato

Dinner $55 prix fixe 5 course + wine, tax, tip = $300

Overall a very good dinner, would definately go back, but it wasn't mind blowing, which is what we had hoped for.

Equinox for lunch today, Corduroy for dinner tonight
