Whole Oats

It turned out that the bag of exotic looking grain I brought home from the grocery store was, on translation, whole oats - not steel cut, but looking a lot like a grain of wheat. I tossed some in a pot and boiled it until edible, and after about 15 minutes it was delicious - tender enough to eat, but still with some texture to it, and a nutty flavour totally different from what I usually think of as oatmeal, and I ate it with a bit of buter and salt.

Does anyone know any recipes for whole oats? A google search turns up multiple variations on oatmeal, and instructions to cook it for two hours, but not much using it as a savoury grain. I think it would work well as a substitute for brown rice, but I'd love some recipes that are designed for oats.
