just tried a new pho place on International Blvd. in Oakland and i wanted to sing its praises.

It's named New Pagolac and it is in a little stip shopping center around 9th and international. (The center also has two other vietnamese resturants and a small bakery.)

the place opened in april.

perhaps because it is new, it is filling the bowls with more meat than at other places. but it is a stand-out in any regard. the broth is clean, with just a hint of sweetness. i thought it as good or even better than AoSen just down the street.
the caphe sua da (expresso and sweetened condensed milk) was one of the best in town.
the best part may be the owner who is very friendly to newcomers. she explains things on the menu, so folks who have been intimidated can feel at ease. she was pushing the fried eggrolls, but i didn't take her up on the offer.
