I will be in Portland this coming weekend and thanks to many kind posts in reply to visitors like myself I am well-armed with dining recs (LOW 'cue Saturday, I am there!), but what I'm really looking forward to is a thorough exploration of the town's beer culture. In fact I've long wanted to visit for this reason alone and now have the perfect excuse. I will be staying downtown and will have no car, but am willing to trudge and transit across town for the cause.
I'd like to sample as many archetypal Portland/Oregon brews, brewpubs and pubs as possible, though I am a particular fan of bigger beers and cask-conditioned ales. I have my list of must-visits but am interested in hearing what you Portland 'hounds have to say- which brewpubs/pubs should I absolutely not miss? Where should I eat my one brewpub meal, and what's their best dish? Any mediocrities I should avoid?
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated, and I really look forward to hoisting a few with you folks. Cheers!
