Oakland - Emma's Cajun Fish and Chicken Market

Stanley Stephan | Jun 27, 200307:22 PM     2

The cars were double parked on the street in front of this take out place on Market Street at 30th in Oakland.

Has anyone tried it?

I stopped by, but, ALAS, all was deep fried or baked. That really is way outside my diet boundries. Business, as I mentioned, was booming.

They had an impressive array of cakes like a 7-UP cake. Lot's of pies and cookies.

You could get hush puppies, a wide assortment of fried fish including perch and catfish. Chicken was fried as well. As the woman at the counter said to me, "It's all fried, honey".

Noticed some salads like potato as well. Prices were rock bottom.

If you continue up Market Street toward Berkely a few blocks up was a meat market that sold both retail and wholesale. They were advertising specials for ribs by the box. Sounds like it might be worth checking out if you plan to barbeque. Sorry, I forgot the name on this one.
