Oakland adventure - frozen dumplings - thanks!

Thanks to Charlie T and Melanie for helping me find frozen dumplings in Oakland. Even if I had found Shan Dong on Webster I never would have known they sold their dumplings frozen to-go. I bought the plain pork dumplings and hurried them home amongst much ice in a cooler. I haven't made the dumplings yet, but I'm looking forward to it. They look great.

We ate lunch at May Hong on Seventh based on Charlie's recommendation. The fried prawns with tamarind were awesome - crunchy, salty, spicy and tangy. I also like the broiled green lip mussels with fried garlic, ground peanut and green onion. What was that dipping sauce? The lady that served us was very helpful when we were ordering even though her English was limited.

We also visited the Lucky grocery store down the street from Shan Dong. We picked up some yummy mango ice cream (they had taro, sesame, and green tea flavors too), a pomelo and a strange deep-fried onion ring snack food. It was quite a fun food adventure.

As an aside: Tainan Taste in Richmond supposedly closed in 2001. The location and phone number are stil listed on their website, but the phone number is out of service. I don't know about the other locations.

I'm going to be attending Burke and Wells' crazy sushi extravaganza this weekend so maybe I'll try to pick up some of the frozen xiao long bao from Southland Taste in Cupertino.
