NYC BBQ taste-off

Nina W. | Jan 23, 2005 03:31 PM

Yesterday I had the pleasure of participating, in a blind taste-off of 7 of the metro area's BBQ places (6 in Manhattan, 1 in NJ). 20 people participated.

The places were as follows, in order of how they ranked. It was a blind tasting:

Pearson's
Blue Smoke
Virgils
Dinosaur
Stickley's (this is the one in NJ)
Texas Smokehouse
Bone Lick

Interesting to note that nobody really *liked* any of them. The "best" represents acceptable (the least offensive, or perhaps the most tolderable), while the "worst" was truly horrendous.

We compared ONLY ribs - nothing else. We didn't rank sides, and people brought sides and desserts that were home made too. Lots of good beer was had by all.

You can read more about it, if you're interested, on www.mouthfulsfood.com .
