I haven't seen these two items elsewhere lately, so I thought I'd make a post and also ask if anyone else has spotted unusual items at that store?
Actually, I haven't ever seen cultured nut-milk cheese anywhere. I looked into it once and IIRC there's a store in Concord that carries them but that's not in my usual orbit. Anyway, I was excited to try it. The brand is Kite Hill and I bought the firm ricotta & White Alder ripened "cheese." I though the ricotta tasted a lot like tofu; I should probably try it in a recipe rather than eat it plain. The White Alder did have a hint of that brie-like flavor, and it sure LOOKED a like a real brie. The texture was kind of like pressed tofu. My son with the milk allergy didn't like either cheese (figures) so I probably won't buy them again soon. But, I'm still glad I got to test them out before trying an expensive mail-order nut milk cheese.
It's been years since i had a real Montreal bagel. I thought the WHole Foods ones were pretty good - right size, chewy and a little sweet, crusted with sesame seeds. Especially good toasted. Yum!
