Thanks to a recommendation from a fellow hound on this board, my wife I went to Novelty last evening for the $25 fixed menu.
At 8:35 pm the place had less then 8 patrons and we were seated at my request toward the back of the restaurant. The front huge window was open and we were a bit cold, but not uncomfortable. In the street out side the window was a large steel plate which covered a big hole. Everytime, a car drove of the plate, the sound of metal slamming against asphalt cause us to jump from our seats. The first time it happened, the hostess commented on how annoying that had been all evening. Since, we could not be further from the window and no one was seating between us and the horrible view, I asked for the window to be closed! The hostess asked the manager, they exchanged a brief chuckle and refused our request.
Fortunatly, I had not ordered the $55 bottle of wine I selected and we promptedly told her "we're leaving." And so she watched us go. Good Luck NOVELTY!
