Hi, new to this board and appreciate everyone's input from a dinner recommendation Saturday, Feb 15. We went to Nova Europa in Silver Spring. This restaurant is owned by the same folks who had Sol-Mar in Bethesda many moons ago and specializes in Portugese food. I can't quite decide about my experiences there. The seafood, particularly the dishes that contain mussels, are excellent. They also have wonderful appetizers including escargot in shell with a wonderful butter garlic sauce and excellent calamari (Lulas Fritas). Good selection of moderate wines.
Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has had experiences there because sometimes their specials are over the top. My wife ordered a rack of lamb that had a very thick breading crust and was so covered in a taragon sauce, the meat couldn't be tasted, which is too bad because it looked like it was well cooked (medium).
I had some veal but again covered in some type of gravy sauce that didn't allow the veal flavor to come through (forget what it was called.) Interested in any feedback.
