Went to Nouvelle this past weekend for the first time.Actually have been wanting to go for some time as we live in the neighborhood.
Have to admit while it was good, it didn't exactly live up to the hype I've seen here.
Service was weird, maybe thats what bothered me.
About 30 secs after we were handed menus, and were told of the days specials, they were asking for drink orders and if we wanted to order appetizers.
Let me say we didn't have reservations, not that they asked if we did. At first, I thought maybe this was why they seemed to be in a rush. We got there a bit after 8 and by the time we left, almost 10, it still was nowhere near full.
We were then asked 3 more times in a very short period of time if we were ready to order. A bit annoying.
It also seemed they were breaking in a new server as the hostess/manager/owner? was going around with her to make sure she got the orders correct. There might have been a language barrier, but it was hard to tell as she spoke so softly, we could barely hear what she was saying.
I will admit that I was impressed by the fact that when I asked for a draft beer, I was told it would be better from the bottle, as the draft wasn't very good that nite. Not sure what they meant by not very good, but glad they steered me away from something they thought I mite not like. Not many places would do that.
The food was good, not remarkable. Sushi/Sashimi was fresh and nice and cold, just the way I like it. But I've had just as good if not better elsewhere in Bay Ridge for a lot less$$.
My wife's (Thai) chicken dish was good, but nothing special.
Appetizers (crispy lobster rolls) and dessert (fried ice cream and Tiramisu) were also good, but nothing special.
From reading here and elsewhere I guess I expected more.
I think we will try again. As I said it was good, just not what I expected.
All in all very mixed feelings about the place. But we will try again at some point.
