Noteworthy Indian restaurant in Western New York

FelafelBoy | Feb 19, 201408:57 AM     3

In the northeastern suburb of Buffalo, NY, in Williamsville, is an Indian restaurant that is among the best I have ever been to - at least for the lunch buffet. Spices of India is both a grocery store and a restaurant, which is one reason why the buffet features items I have never seen at any Indian restaurant doing lunch buffets.

The owners and servers are the nicest I have ever encountered, and the selection and variety of foods is the largest I have seen (except for
desserts).

Six vegetarian dishes, three chicken dishes, a goat dish, big salad section, chutneys, chaat, delicious naan, top the list. SOI often has cliced eggplant with a pomegranate topping. The dal makhani is among the best I have ever had. Delicious stews. always have pakoras, too. Weekends don't feature sambar which surprised me, but you can ask for it.

SOI gets the spice mixture right, too.

The sambar is very spicy. Other dishes are mildly hot.

Is on Evans Rd., between Sheridan Dr. and Main St.

Because the restaurant is inside the grocery store, don't expect the kind
of ambience you would find at a fancier place. It's mostly self-serve,
and the plates and utensils are not fancy, but what is missing on this end in quality is made up in food quality, selection, variety, and hospitality. And don't forget to check out the dessert/snack/bakery area in the front of the store as you leave.

Highly recommended and memorable experience from a diner who loves good Indian food and vegetarian dishes. You will not be disappointed!!
