Go Nostalgic or Go New?

Lgalen | Feb 6, 201502:07 PM

We are Boston Chowhounds who have visited NOLA many times over the past 40 years, but we haven’t been back since Katrina. We’re finally making a return visit, with friends who have only been once. We’re trying to decide on where to eat and drink for the 3 days/4 nights we’ll be there. We have great memories of meals at some of our old favorites: Brigsten’s, Antoine’s, Jacque-Imo’s, Ueglitche, Dunbar’s, Pascal’s Manale, Acme Oyster Bar, even Buster Holme’s (WAY way back). And there are the places we never got to: Commander’s Palace, Dookie Chase, and many others. I’m sure that some of these are gone, and some have degraded over the years. And of course, we may want to try some of the newer (for us) places: Bayona, NOLA, others?

So help us decide which places we should get back to, and which should definitely try. Must haves: Great food and fun atmosphere Must eats: Shrimp n’ Grits, BBQ shrimp (like Pascal’s Manale’s) and OYSTERS. We’ll want to have one fancy, birthday dinner, and at least a couple of “dive” type places.

We’re also trying to decide where to stay. I’m thinking somewhere in the Garden District, or maybe one of the quieter parts of the FQ. We’re also open to other ideas. We don’t plan to have a car, and mostly want to explore, listen to music, eat and drink!

Many thanks in advance!

Bayona
