Norwalk, CT: State of the taco on Fort Point Street?

Miss Sue | May 13, 2005 08:41 PM

Right near the East Norwalk train stop, on Fort Point Street, are several taquerias--Tacos Mexico, Los Portales, and something like La Fiesta (this one may be just a bar; I don't know if it has food). Has anyone eaten tacos at these lately?

Today I stopped by Tacos Mexico (82 Fort Point St., 866-6256) for a tamale, and it certainly did taste like it was made with real corn, as a poster in the General Topics thread was talking about. The fresh salsa (tomatoes, cilantro, onions) flavored it nicely, too. Yes, I am getting tamales at 10:30 in the morning--I blame it all on Chowhound.

Anyway, I bought an horchata, too, but instead of experiencing a Madrid deja-vu, I thought it tasted like a Big Red soda (with some added cinnamon & clove and without the bubbles). Now, I love Big Red, but not this horchata. I was hoping for the rice/almond flavor.

I'm interested in the tacos, too. Are they good at Tacos Mexico? Any other recommendations?
