My husband and I went to the North End last weekend and we decided to go to North Street Grille on the basis of many recommendations from this site. It was fantastic! Service was great and the food was perfect. The mac and cheese with gruyere and peas was awesome and the mussels appetizer was big enough for a very full meal (with very good bread served with it - very important in my book). I had the halibut, which was great, but the sides were so good they even outshone the fish! I wasn't expecting much out of the artichoke cake that came with it, but I couldn't stop eating it. My husband had the lamb and said he thinks it was the best lamb he ever had. I tasted and I even liked it, and I don't usually like lamb. The best part was that for one of the best meals we've had in a long time, we still got out of there for less than 100 bucks.
One question though: when are they going to fix the ventilation problem? It was seriously stinky in there, and both of our jackets have to be dry cleaned because I couldn't even air the smell out of them. This is really a big problem, because I wouldn't want to go there for a meal before I had to be somewhere else, and I think I would be reluctant to take guests there because of the smell. I really hope they can eventually rectify the situation, because if they did I think we would be regulars.
