Why oh why do I just never feel bowled over by my North End dinners ? I don't care if its cheap or pricey; a hole-in-the-wall, or elegant... I'm just never impressed with the food in the North End. Am I the only one ??? Bricco.. pricey, good, tiny portions. Giacomo's.. reasonable, but not good. Limoncello...disappointing. Assagio..good first time..stunk the second. 5 North Sq....Just plain horrible. They served Chicken Tenders for Chix Marsala and the darn things had massive rubbery tendons. Yeach! Antico Forno..Good 1st time.. tough pork second time and skimpy risotto dish. Sage... excellent but small portions..2nd time was so-so.
I'm not a big eater, but would expect more than 4 ravioli, or more than 1/4 cup of risotto for a $25 Buck dish.
Friends are feeling the same way about the North End. What's going on? Could it be the dumbing down of good quality Italian due to tourism or the pressures of the BIG DIG???
I'm contemplating trying Euno or Carmen's after reading intriguing things about each. Any feedback on these or the above ???? I Love the North End on a warm summer nite and a stroll on the water front... but its a constant disappointment lately.
