Got a chance to grab some take out from the Let's Noodle/Phad Thai Shack's new location at the old Rindelaub location on 18th.
First impressions: this place could be great, and I sure hope it becomes great because it's right in my neighborhood! Things were frantic in the kitchen, with residual mixing bowls, pans, and containers everywhere and frequent tense communication between the employees. There was an impatient line of people, and no apparent rhyme or reason to when food would be ready. They told me 10 minutes when I ordered at 6:52, I headed to Borders to look at magazines, returned at 7:02, and my food was ready, but other people who were waiting when I ordered were still waiting!
The food was pretty good. I ordered shrimp phad thai and green curry noodles with chicken. The shrimp phad thai was rather bland, with occasional pockets of seasoning. Four shrimp--rather skimpy! The flavor was generally good, there just needed to be more flavor!
I loved the noodle dish, but my wife expressed surprise at its level of heat (I actually wasn't asked how spicy I wanted it, and don't know if such a request was an option). I thought the flavors were delicious and blended well, but the chicken was slightly dry. Cilantro added extra (refreshing) flavor, but was slightly wilted, not just from the steam of the take-out boxes.
Bottom line: glad to have the restaurant in that space. I hope they work out their opening week kinks. I hope they season their Phad Thai a bit more liberally! And I'm sure I'll be back in a week or two to re-evaluate.
