Nonni's at Holiday Inn, Concord NH

My husband was very reluctant to try this new restaurant at Concord's Holiday Inn since hotel restaurants generally aren't that good. But Nonni's is a local Italian Restaurant from Hillsboro. We arrived on a Friday at 5:30 pm so had no trouble getting a table but when we left at 7pm there were at least 20 people waiting. There were no specials that evening but what had lured me was hearing they had great sangria. This is true. My husband will return just for the sangria but he loved the pizza, too. It was far bettr than he expected. We weren't in the mood for any of the entrees although I was tempted by a lasagna. I noted that they serve family portions as well as individual portions. There were several families enjoying pasta. I let my husband choose the pizza - maplewood chicken which was quite tasty. Just a hint of tomato, mostly the sweetness of the bacon and chicken and wonderful thin crust. You can watch them twirl the crust. Pizza is baked in a brick oven. A house caesar salad is served with all pizzas and entrees. This was a pleasant surprise. So was complimentary bread with dipping oil. We also made the wait for pizza more enjoyable by ordering a steamed mussels and clam appetizer. The bread was even better dipped in the broth. I think the pizza was $13.95 so with the additional salad and bread, this was a good deal. Since it has been so long since I ordered a carafe of anything, a whole carafe was delicious but a little much for two people. We strolled Concord's Main Street for awhile before getting in the car. It was too bad most stores closed at 7pm on a Friday night. A few were open until 8pm and more may be open on First Fridays. If we hadn't eaten so much we would have walked up to Granite State Candy on Warren street for an ice cream cone. We rarely get pizza so I can't compare it to many other places. We will definitely go to Nonni's again. (We also like the thin crust at Penacook's Chief's restaurant. )
