In a thread below there is a discussion about service at Citronelle. After responding I started to think about other restaurants both here and in other cities and I honestly believe that D. C. has a waiter who is as good as any I have found anywhere.
His name is George and he is at Tosca. I first encountered him four months ago and noted that he was, by nature, very friendly and outgoing. Actually a real sales type of personality. But unlike most salesmen (and I am one....) George really knows what he is talking about. He has a passion for food and is quite opinionated about all of the dishes and specials at Tosca. He also knows exactly what he is talking about and is really on the money. Superb recommendations. And given with enthusiasm. He also knows wine. Really, really well. (He is so accurate in his taste that he must have tasted every bottle in the cellar at least once!!!)
Professional, outgoing, considerate, attentive and working at one of the best Italian restaurants in America in my opinion.
Ask for him and see if you don't have the same experience. From four nights at Tosca I believe he has been the same with everyone at every table that was his.
He is as good as you could hope to find anywhere, even Europe.
By the way, if anyone else knows of a waiter or waittress in a better restaurant and would like to mention them, well, all of us might profit from this.
