Nola/Acadiana Trip Report

Selected highlights from my 8 day visit, included the following:
Cafe Des Amis (Breaux Bridge):
Barbeque Shrimp Pont Breaux" - best dish of trip;
flavorful, large shrimp in a "to die for" sauce!
(does anyone know just what is in that other-worldly
sauce?)
Uglesich's:
Fried Oyster Appetizer - sets the standard for
what fried oysters are all about!
Paul's Fantasy - with catfish substituting for
the trout,accompanied by shrimp and potatoes... hearty and delicious
Peristyle:
"Dry-packed" Sea Scallops - sweet and nutty
Gerard's Downtown:
Artichoke-Lump Crab Salad - a great starter;
"Theobroma" - a wonderful chocolate "soup"
surrounding a dense, flourless chocolate cake
NOLA:
crispy yet moist Hickory-Smoked Duck and an even better dessert special, Cashew Pie with orange sauce
Cafe Du Monde:
credit is due for a tourist destination that still delivers a quality coffee and beignet!

And yes, there were a few disappointments along the way:

Mothers:
beef "debris" is not what it used to be (crisp edges of beef), but is now mass-produced shredded beef (hash-like)...too bad.
Soft Shell Crab:
sampled at varous restaurants, but was uniformly lacking in flavor and sweetness...maybe it is too early in the season, but I suspect the crabs are simply not the same as those available in the Northeast markets

All in all, it was a very enjoyable trip!
