Noe/Mission update

We've tried a couple of newly refurbished neighborhood places- Platanos[breakfast and dinner] and Last Supper Club[two dinners]. Platanos has been spiffed up and seems to have a very similar[and tasty] menu as before. The Tres Leches dessert is still great. They have a nice breakfast menu-our favorite being the tortilla d'espanol with chorizo links. They open at 7am unlike so many places that seem to think no one wants food before 11am on a weekend. We recommend it to those growing restless with the wait at the excellent[but tortuous lines]] Tartine across the street. The Last Supper Club has great S.Italian fare with big portions and a noise level that would compare favorably with a 747. Try to get a table in the back if you have anything to say to your companion[s]. For us, desserts were good but not great, veggie sides were first rate and entrees/pastas plenty big enough to share. Provence[ 22nd and Guerrero] and Range [19th/Valencia] continue to be great neighborhood places. The new Garcon [22nd/Valencia] had a much less appealing menu than Provence, to us, but was crowded Sat. night. Finally, in the same block as Provence, the short-lived Essence of India is gone, and a very sophisticated looking Japanese sushi place called KIJI has just opened- seems like a risky location for such a "downtown" feeling place, but the menu looks intriguing...
