Noche Mexicana

I tried to go to this place (101 and Amsterdam) last night, but its favorable write-up in $25 and under 2 weeks ago meant that the tiny restaurant was packed and overwhelmed. I had to settle for take-out, and was reasonably satisfied if not dazzled. I got a chorizo taco which sorely disappointed - the tortillas were competent, but not "extra fresh" tasting and the chorizo was completely bland, not spicy and bit dry. The enchiladas verde con pollo were better - the green sauce was yummy and had a good bite, and the cheese on top was that actual crumbly white Mexican cheese rather than gloppy cheddar or jack. However, there was a shocking lack of chicken inside - perhaps motivated by the dirt cheap $6 price tag, but still....
All in all, I felt that it was not as good as Gabriela's better moments (although Gabriela's is woefully inconsistent) and certainly not as some of our local street vendors.

I should disclose that I spent 4 days in Marin/SF last week, and my Mexican tastebuds may still be spoiled for East Coast fare...so I'm curious whether anyone else has had a chance to try it yet, especially eating in, which is often better.
