Nobu London Report

I am a Washington, DC, chowhound who spent the weekend in London this weekend (arrived Saturday, left Sunday!). To make such a trip worthwhile, I booked a table for myself and three friends at London Nobu for 7pm on Saturday, but learned afterwards that we had theatre tickets for 8pm. Attempts to change the reservation to 6pm were initially met with scorn and derision by the receptionist when one of my London-based friends phoned, so we were going to give them a miss. However, on Saturday itself we decided to give it another go, and this time I was told that they could accommodate us. Upon arrival we told the waiter that we had a bit of a time constraint, and he suggested that he throw together a menu for us that he knew could be prepared swiftly. (Under normal circumstances, I'd have gone for the omakase, so this suited me fine.) He did an outstanding job, with each dish more interesting, and tastier, than the last. Altogether we had about 7 courses, and he even managed to accommodate the shellfish allergy of one of our party, while still keeping things interesting for the rest of us. The bill was just over £120, though without alcohol, and we made it to the theater in time for the curtain. Excellent evening (if only Private Lives had been better...)
