Had an absolutely incredible meal at Nobu this afternoon. My fiancee and I were more or less completely flummoxed by the menu, so we asked the waiter (Wilfredo?) for help. He guided us through what is probably the most standard 'special' meal I could get at Nobu - still was absolutely amazing.
We started off with the Sashimi salad - the salad dressing was a variant on a variety I've had a in a number of asian restaurants - much lighter though, with a more piquant flavor. The tuna sashimi had a wonderful smoky flavor, and a really nice texture.
We then had the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno pepper and cilantro in citrus soy sauce. (not on the lunch menu). This dish absolutely blew me away. The presentation was gorgeous (with the sauce a very bright orange) and the sashimi was even better than the previous sashimi. The jalapeno gave the yellowtail a kick at the end, but was prevented from overwhelming by the cilantro.
Our third dish was Rock Shrimp Tempura in a Sweet, Creamy Sauce. This was my fiancee's favorite, and I really enjoyed it too (but being an Indian food addict, the spicy/savory combination on the yellowtail won me over).
Finally, we had the Black Cod with Miso Sauce. This dish was.. it would have been excellent by itself, but after the previous dishes, it seemed a little dull and unimpressive.
We then ordered a bento box for dessert and got a wonderfully textured chocolate souffle and a nice lump of green tea ice cream.
Total bill without tip (and one soda) $81.
Definitely a worthwhile experience, and probably the best meal I've yet had in my limited chowhounding experience.
As regards my original question, I went in wearing khakis and a nice-ish shirt - my fiancee wore slacks and a very nice shirt. We were probably the most dressed up customers there, as several were in shorts, t-shirts.
Thanks for the assistance,
