Last year, I needed a recommendation for a Nob Hill restaurant worthy of a 40th birthday dinner. We ended up doing a quick scouting of the neighborhood and found Venticello which was lovely but not quite what I need for this evening.
So now I need another recommendation....
Friends are in town and tonight I need to pull a GREAT restaurant out of my hat. One of the friends is an extremely good chef from an upscale restaurant in So. Cal. and I have a reputation to uphold because I have always worked hard to take them to exceptional or at least really good places. Plus, whenever any guests come to town, I want San Francisco to shine. It doesn't have to be expensive, just well executed food.
We're meeting for drinks at the Top of the Mark.
Where to I take them from there? Is there someplace great on Nob Hill that I don't know about? Should we go to 1550 Hyde? Down the Hill to Indian Central (Shalimar/Pakwan/etc.)? Over to Pesce or someplace else on Polk? Into Chinatown or over to North Beach?
Last time they were in town I took them to Rose Pistola and I need to redeem myself.
The time before that, I took them to Slanted Door (which on that particular night was "on" so I showed well).
