N. NJ Taste of the Nation Report

I attended the annual Taste of the Nation at Birchwood Manor in Whippany NJ on Monday night. For those of you unfamiliar with this nation-wide program, it's essentially a chef and restaurant collective with intentions of eliminating childhood hunger. All ticket sales (85$ for the event I attended) are donated to anti-hunger associations and I believe all food is donated by the restaurants. And, lest you think this was a carb heavy, low food cost affair, absolutely not..Featured dishes included diver scallops, ahi tuna, giant shrimps, and lots and lots of tenderloin. Every restaurant plated its dishes (some very intricately) so one was not walking around with a limp (and dirty) paper plate (a pet peeve of mine).

What's really cool is that you get to taste stellar dishes from some of the best restaurants around...Along with a huge vareity of wine from S. Africa, California, Argentina et al, beers, and cocktails, I found the event to be well worth with respect to both belly and heart (BTW: of the $85, $55 is tax deductable)
