We went on Saturday for one of those meals where each aspect is worse than the last. For starters, we almost laughed out loud when we saw how many tables they jammed into the second floor dining room. I had been there for a drink a few times and nothing about the breezy downstairs clues one in about the crowding above. If you are charging $35 for an entree, this is simply unacceptable.
Moving on to the food and service- they seem to have roughly half of the servers they would need to properly service the dining room. I suppose they realized that no more would fit!
20 minutes for wine, same for bread, etc. For the scallop and lobster salad they brought lobster out half way through the course (oops!). No mangos or avacado at all.
The other dishes were about as good (or about as bad). They brought the wrong wine, etc.
The one funny diversion was watching each new set of diners ascend the stairs, locate their table, and immediately ask the hostess if there might be a better one.
The thing I wonder about these chefs is whether they realize that after an experience like this, not only will I not return to 5 Ninth, I won't go to Fatty Crab either.
