I had not been to the Nimbus in a few years so decided to check it out again last night. The food was really good. We were there for dinner but they left us a happy hour menu and encouraged us to order our apps from it as they were half price. Wow, lots of great 5 dollar items. Nice - will go for cocktails and app Happy Hour soon.
We ordered a bottle of wine (wrong pick on my part, I thought we were going to order all seafood, then changed our mind, ooops.)
We had the mussels from the Happy Hour menu. We got 4 mussels in a broth with (lardons?) and lots of corn kernels and two crispy toast wedges. Very nice, unusual broth.
We then ordered the Bistro Salad. It was a deconstructed salad of frisee in a heavy mustardy dressing, 2 largish bacon jowls and bacon lardons. Very tasty, lots of meat. Certainly not a "salad" that is refreshing :)
Then we both ordered the Wagyu steak dinner. There are two sizes 4 oz and 8 oz. We ordered the smaller one. The steaks were perfect, served with taro mash and cubed beets.
The food is very heavily pork related- lots of lardons, cheeks, jowls, etc. in many dishes. I love pork- but might have had a hard time picking something if I didn't.
I have only a few negatives but are all MINOR and not about the food: I wish the menu was different, it is a "book style" and is a pain to go through as they have the regular apps, sides, entrees, special wine pairing dinner, cocktails and wine- all in the one little book (flip, flip, flip).
The candle they put on our table was dirty with greasy looking fingerprints all over the glass. The silverware is cheap and feels that way.
Total for two was 100 bucks including tip. I thought it was a really good value.
