Winding my way through Fremont's Niles District last week to avoid freeway congestion, I spotted an ice cream parlor and decided to wait out traffic here instead. I ordered the Black & Tan sundae, $6, with one scoop of Coffee ice cream and one scoop of Toasted Almond. The ice cream is made by San Jose's Treat. The coffee was quite intense and the toasted almond had lots of crisp almonds. The ice cream itself is better quality than Fenton's. But Fenton's easily beats the whipped cream from a can and the hot fudge and caramel syrups. Still, it was very pleasant to enjoy this at one of the sidewalk cafe tables.

Treat ice cream can be purchased by the quart here. Besides ice cream, the shop also has a hot dog menu.
