Two nights, two days in New Orleans

I moved to New Orleans about five months ago but have yet to really discover what is good and bad for eating. But, my mother is coming to town this weekend and would like to eat better than take-out and fast food. I'd really like to take her to a mix of nice places and local flavor places -- hopefully all within Orleans Parish (she'd love the streetcar).

So, my meager research has revealed the following:
1. I don't really like any of the Copeland's places.
2. The Emeril's food is expensive, but the servings are huge and the taste is pretty good.
3. Cooter Brown's is good, especially when it isn't busy
4. Voodoo BBQ is also not bad, especially, again, when it isn't busy

You can see how little of my own expertise I can rely on. Any suggestions for any of the six meals?
