Nightmare at Hacienda de Argentina

Tom G | Dec 22, 2003 02:47 PM

I had been to this unusual Argentinian (?) once before...just weeks after they opened...thought that the food was good and the service needed a little help...also noticed that they had big tables - good for accomodating big groups...

SOOOO when i had a group of ten people going to a Bobby Short performance at the Carlyle this Saturday night, i thought - Jeez, let's go to Hacienda, its just a few blocks away and they've got great ways to accomodate big parties.

When i made the reservation i was very clear that we had to be out of there at 10p to get to our 10:45p Bobby Short performance. "No Problem" i was told...When i arrived on Saturday night (early) to smooth the way for my friends, i re-iterated our time constraints. "No problem" i was told.

We ordered shortly after 8:30p when we sat down and again re-iterated our time constraints. "No problem" we were told. They said they cook the meat at low temperature, but they would get us out in plently of time.

Well, 9p passed, no entrees...9:30p passed, still no entrees...9:45p pass, still no entrees...The waiter each time promising that they were "on the way" 9:45p, he said they would be out in 2 or 3 minutes...

At 10p, still no entrees...waiter says that the food is literally being plated right then and there...manager gets involved...says food is on its way out...

At 10:10p, we make a group decision - time to cut our losses. We'll go to Bobby Short hungry and eat afterwards.

The only bright spot of the night was that they didn't put up a fight when we told them that we weren't paying for the entrees...

But I feel responsible for my friends' hunger...after all, it was i who suggested the restaurant...

Just a word of warning, i guess...
