Last night at Mercadito

I want to thank those who recommended this place to me. I went there last night and loved this place. I think it's now my fave mexican place.

My boyfriend and I got there after 9PM and there was a 30-40 min wait for a table. But just as we got there, 2 seats at the bar cleared up and we ate at the bar to escape the wait. I think this made our experience even better. The bartender, Theresa, was very friendly, knowledgeable, pleasant and made really good recommendations.

We tried all the spicy margaritas; one was citrusy with habanero, one was made with cucumber and another spice, and one was a bit smoky made with chipotle. All were very good and very fresh. My fave was the cucumber. Their regular margarita was also very good. My boyfriend loves margaritas and he says he thinks it's the best he had in nyc. He likes the pulp from the fresh squeezed lime juice.

We ordered the guac sampler. It came with traditional, mango, and pineapple. It was tasty but i wasn't a big fan of the fruity guacs. My boyfriend liked the mango the best. I liked the traditional. and liked the chips a lot. My fave chips but not my fave guac. I was a little annoyed at the small portions though..

We then ordered the shrimp tacos, the tacos al pastor, and the picadas (chicken, steak and pork). They were all SO good. My least fave was the tacos al pastor, b/c I didn't think the pineapple went well with it. I like pineapple, but not with meat. It was still good and all very flavorful. The portions didn't seem very big, but I was stuffed after the meal and couldn't make room for dessert.

Definitely going back there again and trying other stuff on their menu... can't wait to try the cheese app.
