I'll be in Chicago with my brother next Friday night. We are looking to eat dinner somewhere northwest of downtown....in neighborhoods such as Wicker Park, Logan Square, Humboldt Park, etc. (although this is a little bit flexible)
I live in Oakland, CA and he lives in Portland, ME. We'd love to have something that's different than what we can get at home. We've spent very little time in Chicago. A lot of places I was reading about on Eater are booked up for Friday night, so a place that requires a reservation might be out.
Any suggestions for casual but festive places we should try? Open to pretty much any type of food. I read about Lonesome Rose and Mi Tocaya Antojeria, which both sound interesting, but we're very open to Eastern European, American, Asian, Greek, etc. Ideally between $20 and $40 per person, but could be less or more if warranted.
Would also love advice about streets/areas to walk and browse on a Friday night. Open to good dessert spots too.
Also, in case this matters, we can probably arrive at a restaurant relatively early (5:30 PM or 6 PM) if that might help us get into otherwise overly popular places. Also willing to sit at bar, outside, etc.
Where would you go with just one night in these neighborhoods? Biggest priority is good food!
