I have planned one night in Chicago (in June) and would like to choose the best possible dining experience for my husband's birthday.
Preferences: We dined at Tru about 11 years ago and loved it. I know a TON can change in 11 years. We recently ate at Eleven Madison Park and Per Se in New York, and vastly preferred Eleven Madison Park as a dining experience (we weren't huge fans of French Laundry either). We love Bluestem (modern American, Chefs Colby and Megan Garrelts) in our home city, KC.
Help me choose! I was leaning towards Alinea, but who knows what it might be like when the restaurant re-opens. And Tru has a new chef since we were there (it was Rick Tramonto). So possibly it would be an entirely new experience. I appreciate the insight! We have three very young children, and never get out, so flying to Chicago for one night is a big deal for us. I am hoping to make it one of the most memorable dinners of our lives. We are adventurous, and love all cuisine. But we want a long, slow, adventurous prix fixe menu for sure. Thanks in advance for your help chowhounds! I've been a Loooong time reader, but first time poster.
