With Peter St. Deli closing at the beginning of the year and then Le Gourmand just recently, the area definitely needed some good news.
I've been eagerly waiting for this place to open. The notable thing about LIttle Nicky's are their house made mini doughnuts à la Tiny Tom's. Just noticed they were open yesterday on my home from work so made it a point to go there this morning.
It's on Peter St. just south of Queen. It's actually at the back of the Gap. The space is nicely designed with a vintage look. Behind the counter you can see their small doughnut making machine. I'm not sure if it is always the case or it was just because I was there early enough, but they made up my order for a half a dozen fresh to order. Instead of the conveyor built at Tiny Tom's, their machine spits out the li'l guys into a spinning ceramic bowl. They then toss the hot doughnuts in sugar and cinnamon. It was nice and not too heavy the way some cake-style doughnuts can be. At $2.75 I can't complain.
This is going to make a great mid-afternoon place for treats the way Le Gourmand was. I look forward to trying their other house made goodies like cookies, lemonade, and oh yeah, coffee.
