At a friend's suggestion I checked out Nick's Lobster's web site. I signed up for their email specials. My friend and I are both May babies and we received gift certificates for $25 off dinner so we decided to go and celebrate.
It was a Friday night and they were busy but not crazy busy. The totally grumpy hostess said there was a wait and snapped :"Sit over there" as she pointed to some lumpy sofas. We thought we'd have a drink at the bar but were surprised that it was beer and wine only. Such is life.
There was a table for two in an undesirable location and I pointed to it and asked "Grumpy" if we could sit there. "No! Sit down."
A few minutes later we got a nice table with a water view. As instructed, we gave the waiter the two birthday certificates. He looked dismayed and called over "Grumpy" who said: "You can only use one per table" I went into Brooklyn wise guy mode and said: "How about if my friend sits at that other table?" "NO!!" and she stormed away. Such is life and we were not going to let it ruin our birthday celebration.
We ordered two lobsters, one steamed and one broiled, and drinks.
The waiter was totally friendly and efficient.
The lobsters and sides came. Lobsters were totally overdone and dry. A big disappointment. We looked at one another, thought of complaining to the NYS DMV trained hostess and said "Nah."
For a place that specializes in lobster the food was a big disappointment. The hostess, such is life.
We had a delightful evening none the less.
