A friend was in town staying downtown and the only time he had to meet was for breakfast early Saturday morning. I suggested the Nickel Diner on Main Street.
This is going to be short and so very, very sweet. We split two doughnuts to start. Straight out of the fryer - one maple bacon and one Irish Car Bomb. I had forgotten a little bit about how good both these things are.
I had the BBQ pulled pork hash with potatoes and two poached eggs on top. I got the (one piece only!) of very good whole wheat bread with their house made jam This is a substantial portion of food and the pork was so lovely and juicy. Combined with the other elements (and critically - not too much bbq sauce) it was soul satisfying in a deep and abiding way.
This place looks like it could have been around for 20 years rather than only a couple. The only odd note is they don't have a counter to sit at, but the space is so small it just couldn't be done in a practical way.
My friend had the tofu scramble and loved it, but I didn't get even a bite as he inhaled it.
If you are downtown for some reason and want an excellent breakfast, this would be at the top of my list.
