Was walking home last night and came across a new, tiny & busy Italian cafe called Nonno Peppino on 4th Avenue and 9th street.
They had coffee gelato/ice cream/sorbet, as well as a full menu with panini/pasta/"brick oven" pizza.
Tiny storefront, large kitchen.
Pie looked great, could not resist a slice.
Tangy sauce made from (at least partially) fresh tomatoes, high quality fresh mozzarella, pecorino, with fresh basil and EVOO added on top after it came out.
Great flavor harmony on top of the slice, but the dough was odd. Not in a bad way though. I liked the flavor of the dough, and the texture under the toppings, but the crust was a little doughy.
All in all a nice slice from the type of pie that is normally only sold whole.
