My mom would like to go to a 'fancy' dinner somewhere in the SF Bay Area for her birthday in March (from the city, down the Peninsula, as far as Sunnyvale or Mountain View).

I have a ton of 'foodie' places bookmarked, but they're a little too untraditional for my mom's taste. She is fairly adventurous in the types and ethnicities of foods she will eat, but she's not the type for a tasting menu, tiny portions of beautifully presented food, or experimentation a la Herve This- in short, she prefers a good portion of interesting and very good but not too unusual food.

To make the decision even more difficult, I am an incredibly picky eater (no fish or seafood, no whole beans, no soups. . . the list goes on) although I love to try new things. Our budget is about 70-100 pp, not including wine/drinks.

Can anyone recommend a place that might fit our needs? Kokkari, Zuni Cafe, and Nopa all sound good, but i'd love some other ideas!
