My wife ordered this when we went to a restaurant last week. She did not have the smoked turkey because she is a vegeterian (gasp). The sandwich was served on a focaccia with cherry buter. I asked her what the cherry butter was like and she said softened butter. I called the restaurant and they said it was like an applesauce. So this question lingers. So I need a substitute for the smoked turkey for vegetarians. I definitely would add pea shoots which I have been using lately... like for egg salad sandwichs. A bit of crunch and a different layer of texture. I hate alfreda sprouts which makes me think of tree huggers, posey sniffers, and have a hart losers. Anyway, just my thoughts.
However, to the sandwich. I made this yesterday on homemade whole wheat bread. I bought some smoked turkey breast (boars head brand). So layer some thinly sliced avocado, some thinly sliced boars head smoked turkey, and some brie cheese between some very nice bread. The bread should not be so strong that it over powers the other tastes as this is a very mild type of sandwich. I used my honey jalenapo sauce which was perfect for this. You could put some spinach leaves on the sandwich but I would not put tomato as tomatos have no taste these days.
Honey Jalapeno Sauce
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons green onions finely chopped
1 jalapeno pepper seeded and diced
1 dash hot pepper sauce
1 dash Worcestershire Sauce
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 pinch white pepper
1 turn freshly ground black pepper
In a bowl whisk together all ingredients. Thin with additional cream if desired.
