Hi there. My sister and I want to take our mother out for her 60th birthday, and are looking for some expert advice. Mom has a very limited diet, and what she really likes best is to just get a veggie plate, but not at any place that she thinks screams "Vegetarian Restaurant!!!" (Sou En, Caravan of Dreams, etc., are right out) or is "too touristy" (this is harder to fathom, but seems to be any place that's big, like Union Square Cafe, even though we patiently explain that large does not equal touristy).
Places we have had best success at are: The Cupping Room in SoHo, but that's more of our casual go-to place; Rosewater in Park Slope, but we want to be in Manhattan; Le Madeleine in the West 40s; and Cafe Loup on West 13th. These all either have great veggie plates on the menu or are more than happy to create one. I would like to go maybe one rung higher on the ladder o' fanciness, and try someplace new, since it is a monumental birthday. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
