We're getting together tomorrow night with friends from the UWS. They consider their area a food desert (except for a few places like Ouest) and see it as a special treat to go out in our area -- Washington Sq.//West Village. We haven't seen them in a while so we need:
--a place where we can talk and catch up without noise overwhelming the evening
--a place that's nice (but not over-the-top pricey -- not more than $30/40 per person before wine, let's say). We need something to make them feel their trip downtown was indeed special.

What would work? (Japanese, by the way, is out although other cuisines would work).
--Would Otto on a Sunday night be noisy?
--is Blue Hill too pricey?

Note: we are tired of Jane's (anyway, it can be noisy)and 50 Carmine, and Soho places like Jerry's.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!
