Had a nice Valentine's weekend dinner at The White Peach in Gaylordsville CT (Off Route 7 in New Milford headed towards Kent).
The chef prides himself on using the freshest organic local produce available, and being dead of winter there ain't much out there right now.
All the dishes we had were good -The steak was absoultely delicious, charred to a crustiness on the outside and rare on the inside as ordered. Hungarian Goulash had a nice spiciness and the meat was fork tender. Entrees come with vegetables (medley of carrots, asparagus, broccoli, squash), and roasted potatoes.
The bread basket had good warm crusty slices which went well with our starter - Chicken Vegetable Soup. This soup was just what you would want on a cold winter's night. It had a flavorful stock, carrots, celery and moist chicken. With soup this good I was almost tempted to cancel my entree to try the other two soups - French Onion and Tomato Bisque with basil. Soup night would have been nice. Maybe next time.
We shared a dessert, a chocolate silk cake, which was a cold, fudgy, dense confection, very similar to the commercial David's chocolate mousse cake. It was good. Being V day they had Veuve Cliquot by the flute ($14) or by the half bottle ($39). My flute went down smoothly and quickly.
Nice atmosphere, romantic. Service was a little slow, but it didn't bother us. Highly recommend.
