Nice but casual options without dressing up?

pdxjim | Oct 1, 2009 11:19 PM

Traveling solo for 6 nights, so not looking for any formal/romantic spots, but would like to try a few of the nicer meals where I can go tourist casual - shorts and shirt as I don't plan to pack much else. Think conservative golf attire, not cutoffs and tee shirts. Flexible on the budget range, but like most I'm always looking for a good deal too.

I've spent a lot of time reading this board and would like to thank all of you for contributing to one of the most useful and informative travel boards I've ever read. I feel like I am prepared for a memorable trip already by following your recommendations and reviews I've read here.

Any thoughts, changes, critiques, additions, deletions you can think of are appreciated.
I'm especially curious as to which of the "nicer" places would work for a casual dinner or lunch.

I know my casual attire rules out some places for any meal (I think I've left them off this list), but others might work for lunch.
Can you tell me where I can go and for which meal(s):
Emerils
Commanders palace
August
Luke
Bayona
Cochon
Green Godess
Dante's K itchen
Casamento's
Jacgue-Imo's
Napoleon House
Mr. B's

Are there other moderate/upscale but casual choices I've missed? Are there any on this list to remove based on quality?

I've got a nice list of the recommended spots that I know are casual for po' boys, gumbo, etc... but I need to refine my list so I don't head out for dinner and get turned away for not having dressed nice enough.

Thank you all for your help, I'm really looking forward to this!
