Nice things to say about Brooklyn Heights

Peter in the Heights | Jun 13, 2005 04:29 PM

So with the perennial bashing of the Heights I thought I'd report on the 2 meals I had there in the last week that were everything you'd want from the establishments...

The Waterfront Ale House... on Atlantic (between Clinton and Henry) is everything you'd expect from its facade. Great beers on tab, lively vibe, yummy upscale pub grub and free popcorn. It never fails to please.

Henry's End... on Henry just off of... Cranberry? Anyway, despite my 7 years here on and off I've only been there *once* before. I know, insane. But my companion(s) were never in the mood or it was too long a wait and we'd end up next door at Noodle Pudding (another can't miss!). Anyway, the food was downright excellent and from what I could tell, everyone around me felt the same. Many of the patrons seemed to be regulars... the waitress knew many by name and the owner (Mark) was present all night and making the rounds. The only complaint I have is that it was too noisy! (And I'm not an old curmudgeon -- I'm a moderate 35 years old). I literally had to ask my girlfriend to repeat herself a dozen times and I spent most the night staring at her mouth trying to lip-read. They need some better acoustic tile on the ceiling.
