Nice Breakfast at the PDC

David Kahn | Aug 13, 2005 03:32 PM

I know it's old news, but just wanted to say, once again, that the Pacific Dining Car (1310 W. 6th St., (213) 483-6000) makes a really nice breakfast. Have to work this weekend, so the missus offered to drive me in, and we stopped for breakfast at the PDC on the way downtown. I had ham and scrambled eggs, hash browns (well done) and an english muffin. The ham steak was delicious -- about 5/8th inch thick, cooked on a charcoal grill, smokey and good. The hash browns are not traditional. They're more like very slightly undercooked potato chips; very crispy, and a great contrast to the soft scrambled eggs and salty ham steak. The missus had the avocado scramble, which was, as usual, rich and decadent and delicious. Fresh oj and coffee/tea topped it all off. Great service, and everything is served on nice hotel silver with linen table cloths and napkins, etc. Elegant, peaceful, and very satisfying. Breakfast for two, with a tip, came to $40. A bit pricey, I'll concede, but worth every penny.
