I found myself at Nhu Y on Argyle again this week, a place I had poked my head into on previous bahn mi expeditions. Before I couldn't muster the communicative powers to decipher a board on the wall with the names of wild animals, and had speculated that the wild boar and black bear were the names of local social club softball teams. This time around however, I confirmed, for better or for worse that the animals on the board, including deer, wild boar, rabbit, and more alarmingly rattle snake, kangaroo and black bear, are indeed available for consumption there. Apparently, they'll prepare it for you, or you can grill it yourself at the table. A guy a table let me know that black bear meat, despite my astonishment, was very delicious: a sweet meat. I couldn't order any at that time, but it seems like an ingredient list too peculiar to not at least be sampled. Have other hounds eaten kangaroo, rattle snake black bear? Care to speculate on the legality of consuming bear meat? Nhu Y is under new management at the northwest corner of Arglye and Kenmore.
